On Saturday, April 5 from 10am to noon, residents are invited to join current exhibiting artist Kerrie Poliness’ Field Drawing event.
Ms Poliness will be creating a large-scale geometric drawing that will flow up the precinct’s Orchard Hill and down into the nearby SAM Amphitheatre as part of a temporary installation that expands on her new Art Wall installation Swamp Drawing.
Ms Poliness is a Melbourne-based artist with a dynamic creative practice who produces paintings, drawings, sculptures and films that draw on the histories of conceptual and abstract art.
Collaboration is a significant element of Ms Poliness’ practice.
Her large-scale wall drawings and public artworks invite people into the creation process, with the outcome of the artwork shaped by each individual participant’s interpretation of the artist’s instructions.
Participants at this free event will extend the lines of Poliness’ geometric design that she will paint ahead of the event on Orchard Hill in turf paint, using chalk to flow the design into the SAM Amphitheatre.
People of all ages are invited to participate, with registrations now open via Humanitix.
Check out the variety of creative goods available at the Art Market, which will run alongside Poliness’ Field Drawing.

On the same day, from 10am to 2pm, the Art Market will be held on the lakeside of the SAM precinct, where visitors can discover and purchase unique handmade design and craft objects from local artists and makers.
Featuring ceramics, handcrafted jewellery, textiles and paintings, stallholders include Meander Designs, Baljil Art, Greg Beckenham, Auntie Addie’s and Megan Walker.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Shepparton Festival for another year to present unique and engaging arts experiences to our community,“ SAM head of engagement Gabriella Calandro said.
“Kerrie Poliness is an artist with a fascinating practice that welcomes people into the process to bring her ideas to life.
“Her public artworks have been installed across the major cities of Australia, and it’s an exciting opportunity for Shepparton to be a part of that exhibition history with the field drawing on Orchard Hill.
“While people are here for the drawing event, we also invite them to explore the local creative talent that will be showcased in our first Art Market, which will be held outdoors at the front of Kaiela Arts.
“This market is a great chance to discover the creative practices of local community members, connect directly with the artists at the stalls and hopefully walk away with their very own unique artwork or design object.”
