Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said the shire’s sporting clubs were renowned for their role in supporting the health and wellbeing of local communities.
“It was great to see many of these groups come together for this special networking event,” he said.
A presentation on securing successful grant applications from Keith Whelan, known as ‘The Grants Guy’, was deemed a highlight of the event.
Mr Rollinson said many clubs would need grants to future-proof their facilities and encourage participation, making advice on applications crucial.
The event doubled as the launch of the Gannawarra Fair Access Policy, which aims to reduce the barriers for women, girls and people of all cultural and socio-economic barriers in accessing community sports.
“Participation in community sport is often lower for women and girls,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Addressing barriers and creating inclusive opportunities are key to increasing participation rates.”
A panel of industry professionals wrapped up the evening with a question-and-answer session on all things sports, grants and club support.
Brihony Dawson facilitated the panel which included Laura Bradley, Jesse Sherwood and Keith Whalen.
