The land on which it stands is the middle of three properties owned by Tom Carroll at the corner of End St and Junction St.
Mr Carroll has indicated all three would eventually be demolished, but as yet what will go in its place has not been decided.
The community centre has been dormant for many years, and was once home to the Council for Social Development Central Murray Region which later became Intereach.
Its original use was as the Deniliquin RSL Club from 1921 to 1974.
Smaller, but hanging on
Regular attendees of the Deniliquin Lions Community Market may have noticed it’s been a bit smaller than usual recently.
In February, the smaller market was the result of a clashing market in Cobram.
This past weekend, the reason was less clear.
It could have been the rain, but local Lions suggested that some markets simply don’t get the same number of stalls they once did.
But they said the Lions will keep going for as long as they can.
It would be a shame to see this great market lost.
The Deniliquin Lions Community Market is held the fourth Saturday of each month in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens.
You don’t need to have a gazebo full of goodies, there’s plenty of shade in the beautiful Waring Gardens to just have a table of all your wares.
The site fees are affordable, and you’ll be supporting your local community at the same time.
Give Lion Norm a call on 0417 831 466 to discuss your options and secure a site.
Spread the word and get behind the Lions Market.
Meet the candidate
Independent candidate for Farrer Michelle Milthorpe is continuing her ‘listening tour’ in the region this week.
After visiting Barham Monday and Euston yesterday, Michelle will be in Deniliquin to meet with voters tomorrow.
The ‘coffee meet’ is being held at The Crossing Cafe from 2pm to 3pm.
On Thursday Michelle continues on to Holbrook, and then Albury on Friday.
Michelle will be back in Deniliquin next week for a special campaign event, where she will share her journey of “accidental advocate” to federal election candidate.
Riverina railway warning
Those who travel regularly across the Riverina are on notice that there will be increased enforcement at level crossings in the region.
Motorists are reminded to be vigilant and follow the road rules as Transport for NSW and NSW Police join forces to raise awareness and penalise reckless behaviour at level crossings in the Riverina region.
Policing of all level crossings will increase, but a joint operation will specifically target four level crossings in Junee, Old Junee, and Marrar until April 4.
Motorists who don’t follow the rules at level crossings, including entering a level crossing when a train is approaching, could face three demerit points and a $544 fine.
