The Roos’ planned afternoon practice match against Albury Tigers was brought forward to the morning in view of the hot, 35 degrees temperature.

Playing five 20 minute quarters the senior boys and reserves had a hit out to dust off the cobwebs for the first time in 2025!
The teams were competitive with both sides missing some keys signings. Roos were missing local boys Ryan Eyers and Jedd Longmire as well as new GWS VFL Players Liam McCarthy and Jaidan Butson. Albury were also missing a few key players in what is a strong side.
Plenty of interclub practice matches and plenty of talk as depicted above with Roos’ senior netball coach Sally Hunter addressing the netballers on skills, game play, nutrition and testing.
The Roos showed some great patches of play going down closely to Albury. Recruits Tyler Roos and Josh Clayton worked very well in tandem to get the ball humming around in the midfield aided by classy big man Nathan Richards in the ruck.
Although it was a sluggish first term the Roos were back able to wrestle back the momentum in second and third period and showing the crowd of 200 what is going to be a real feature of the Roos in 2025.
There were several youngsters in the game with Jayden Forge and Lucas Webb experiencing a senior game for the first time and show their skills coming from the Corowa Under 16’s program.
The Reserves also had a good hitout as well with a few fresh faces within the squad.
There were plenty of good signs and were able to keep up in patches with Albury.
Although it was only 30 mins of playing, coach Sam Haigh was very pleased with how the boys stuck to their task.
With a relaxed lunch after the game, the Roos heard from senior coaches Daryn Cresswell and Sally Hunter on the season ahead.
Club presidents Beau Longmire and Rowena Black also made a presentation to Club Corowa President Jenni Delaney of their framed Indigenous jumper as a token of thanks for their support over the last few years.
The senior boys have two more practice matches coming up over the next two weekends, one in Sydney and one in Geelong.
Everyone will be training at JFO on Tuesdays and Thursdays leading up to the club’s first round twilight game on April 12 against Wangaratta Magpies in Wangaratta.
Ripper Roo Lotto
The Ripper Roo Lotto is a weekly lotto draw conducted at the Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club every Thursday night.
There are 200 balls in total. It costs $5 per week (direct debited or paid annually in a lump sum) and each weekly draw is for $400 with a Christmas draw of $1000 each year.
