State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe is calling for an upgrade to the Shepparton Railway Station car park.
With the existing site having only 45 spaces, Ms O’Keeffe said it was inadequate given the increasing demand on V/Line services.
“It is virtually impossible to find a parking space, and surrounding streets are becoming clogged with cars,” she said.
“Drivers are dangerously double parking and causing congestion, in and out of the car park.
“This is all due to the inadequate number of parking spaces.”
Stage three of the Shepparton Line Upgrade will see nine return services per weekday when completed, increasing further demand for more parking spaces.
“At the moment, a lot of locals will drive to Seymour and park there when travelling to Melbourne where there are more regular services,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“Once the additional weekday services are finally delivered, these commuters are likely to board at Shepparton and need additional parking space.”
Ms O’Keeffe has called on Transport Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams to visit the Shepparton Railway Station and see why the upgrade is needed.
