The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fundraiser that invites participants to run or walk to raise money for breast and ovarian cancer research.
Ms Godden has taken part in the event for the past six years but this year she will be participating as an organiser for the first time.
Ms Godden said her motivation for running the event was her own mother, who passed away in 2018.
“I don’t want to be sad and I don’t want to be thinking that I’ve lost something on Mother’s Day,” she said.
“I want to pay respect to my mum, who’s in heaven; I feel like she’s watching over me and she’s going to be in my event and I want to make her proud of me.”
As someone who is hearing impaired, Ms Godden added that the event was also an opportunity for her to showcase her skills.
“It’s my first time (organising) the Mother’s Day Classic; I’m a little nervous but I really want to show that a deaf person can do the exact same as a hearing person,” she said.
“I grew up in a hearing family but my mum signed and ... she had such a passion for deaf people and trying to help deaf people have fair access.
“She made me feel like as a deaf person, I can do anything — the only thing I can’t do is hear but that’s it.”
There are more than 85 Mother’s Day Classic events happening around Australia this Mother’s Day.
Since 1998, $46.1 million has been raised through the Mother’s Day Classic for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and last year, $1.2 million was donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
The Echuca Moama event will be held at the Hopwood Gardens, Echuca from 7am to noon on Sunday, May 11.
Participants can choose to do an 8km run, a 4km run or they can do a 4km walk.
There will be food and drinks available on the day and face painting for the kids.
