Trbojevic was Michael Maguire's skipper in last year's triumphant come-from-behind series win, but raised eyebrows when he played only 85 of a possible 240 minutes across three matches.
That included only 23 minutes in the series-deciding third match at Suncorp Stadium.
As recently as last month, Manly forward Trbojevic accepted he may not retain the captaincy under Daley.
Trbojevic was a member of the extended preliminary squad that joined Daley for a brief camp last month, and is the only incumbent Blue to have played under Daley in his first stint as coach.
The eldest Trbojevic brother remains a favourite of Daley's, but for the coach it's not as simple as guaranteeing he will be the captain for the first match in Brisbane on May 28.
"You've just got to see who's in the team first. You can never anticipate anything in this game," Daley said at New South Wales Rugby League's season launch.
Daley attended the two NRL games that kicked off the season in Las Vegas but as of yet has no plans about who will be in the 17 for the Origin series, much less who will be captain.
But Trbojevic's limited game time in 2024 would not necessarily work against him as the coach determines which man leads the side.
"(That's) no issue at all," he said.
"I thought Jake did a terrific job (as captain). He's a very passionate leader, the boys all love him, they respect him. I'm sure if Jake keeps his form up this year, there'll be no reason not to pick him.
"Everyone has their different thoughts on different players but every time Jake's pulled on a blue jersey, he's always played extremely well.
"He's very passionate about the state."
Daley could have a fit Penrith co-captain Nathan Cleary as an option to skipper if Trbojevic misses selection.
Since last year's Origin series win, fellow Penrith leader Isaah Yeo has also ascended to the Australian captaincy so would be another man in the frame.
Yeo is the incumbent vice-captain and was the Blues' on-field leader when Manly forward Trbojevic was on the bench last series.
The Blues posted one of the most memorable series wins in Origin history last year, coming back from a disappointing loss with 12 men in game one to clinch the series behind enemy lines.
Daley, Blues coach between 2013 and 2017, said there was no need to completely reinvent the Origin set-up given the 2024 success.
"You've got to acknowledge that what they did last year was great. Obviously, you can't rinse and repeat, you've got to be able to come up with your own ideas," he said.
"But there's not too many things you needed to do differently."
