Sometimes, though, David comes in and claims what he believes to be his.
Tuesday brought about the conclusion of club midweek bowls for another season, with Shepparton Golf Bowling Club entertaining the top two division finals as Tallygaroopna met Tatura-Hill Top in the pennant grand final.
The Redlegs had set the pace just about all season in the Edna Harling Shield, seeking to continue more than a year’s worth of momentum following victory in the division two grand final, which earned the club a crack at the pennant.
Meanwhile, Tatura-Hill Top had entered finals from fourth after boasting a regular-season record with more defeats than victories, but stood up when it counted courtesy of a thumping semi-final win over Shepparton Park and a huge boilover in the preliminary final at Shepparton Golf’s expense.

Unfortunately for the underdogs, though, their favoured adversaries in red and green showed simply no mercy on the day.
Matheson Shield skipper David Daws led a particularly destructive rink win, the skip overseeing a ruthlessly dominant 31-6 result.
Already with its backs more than against the wall, Tatura-Hill Top would find no joy elsewhere in response as the Redlegs ran the table, sweeping their way to a midweek pennant premiership courtesy of a resounding 16-74 to 0-30 win.
In having done the job with such emphasis, Daws adamantly hailed the collective efforts which brought the shield home.
“I think it was the way the boys turned up and played well right from the start,” Daws said.
“It was a good team effort supplied today and, as a back end bowler, it was much easier when the leads and seconds had an exceptional day all day.
“Whenever it’s a grand final, anything can happen, so to get away at the start and maintain it is a really good thing to have.
“You can never take yourself as a favourite in a grand final, but the boys turned up today and did a really good job.
“There’s nobody who was a massive standout today; it was just a good effort from the whole team.”
There remains plenty left at stake for the club as a whole, of course, with the Matheson Shield decider between Tallygaroopna and Shepparton Golf taking place Saturday.
