Deniliquin surges to upset championship

The lowest seed going into the finals, Deniliquin completed the sweep of the other division two finalists to claim the weekend pennant on Saturday.

Having already dealt with Tongala and Echuca, minor premier Moama was the final hurdle that Deni had to clear to earn the title, doing so 56-46.

Three tight rinks were contested, but all three went Deniliquin’s way, skips Craig Hillier and Brian Kemnitz sharing the biggest wins by four shots each.

Teammate Robert Morris completed the trifecta with an 18-16 win in the remaining rink.

Although it came to an unfortunate conclusion, a minor premiership season is nothing to scoff at for Moama, led by skips Trevor Eastwell, Russell Kelly and Ben Franklin.
