On November 23, 2024, the ADA’s Melbourne branch hosted its highly anticipated annual game dinner, a culinary and social event, at the charming Abruzzo Club in Brunswick East.
With over 150 guests, this year's dinner was a record-breaking success, featuring the somewhat belated presentation of the prestigious 2021 Arthur Bentley award (AB) for the largest sambar stag taken that year, presented by esteemed Life Member, Bob Gough.
The winner of the 2021 AB was Gregg Pegg, who harvested an incredible sambar that scored 219 Douglas points and sits at number 33 in the top 50 records.
Emma Sears captivated the audience with her thrilling global hunting adventures and expert insights, leaving the crowd hungry for more of her experiences.
Guests savoured a lavish spread of wild delicacies, beginning with a tantalising antipasto featuring succulent venison, aromatic smoked meats, crispy duck arancini, delicate smoked trout, freshly baked bread, plump olives, and fragrant dipping oil.
This was followed by an entrée of quail served with soft polenta alongside a duck breast with red wine on roasted potato, with further roasted vegetables shared amongst the table.
The main consisted of a sumptuous wild braised rabbit in a white wine, onion, and mixed herb cacciatora sauce alongside the to-die-for venison ragu with casarecce.
To crown the already impressive feast, guests indulged in refreshing lemon sorbet garnished with zesty fresh lemons, and creamy pannacotta drizzled with a luscious berry coulis.
There was not an empty stomach in the building.
Congratulations to all of those involved on a fantastic evening enjoyed by all who attended.
