Shepparton and District Tennis Association has its section one and section two grand finals this Saturday with both matches held at Central Park.
Sun-filled skies will make for hot - if not sweltering - conditions for the competition's best players to go head-to-head in an exciting climax to the season.
Shepparton North once again features in the final match on the section one calendar, while newcomer Lemnos has secured the second spot in the decider.
Lemnos is the final guard blocking Shepparton North from premiership redemption after North lost their chance at a three-peat following a defeat to McEwen Reserve in last year’s grand final.
Third-placed Lemnos’ Julie McClelland said her side doesn’t mind having the underdog tag attached to them heading into Saturday’s fixture.
“We simply want to go out there and enjoy our tennis and hope for the best,” McClelland said.
“We knocked (Shepparton North) off in a home-and-away match, they were probably a bit depleted, so we can’t throw our chest out too far.”
Lemnos started the season in a poor run of form losing a plethora of games to start the summer.
However, the racquet wielders from Lemnos fought back hard and defeated McEwen Reserve Red in the preliminary final 5-39 to 4-37 to book a spot in the grand final.
McClelland said it would take a team effort on Saturday to find victory in the scorching Shepparton sun.
“Both of us are Friday night teams, but we are playing on the Saturday, which could be a factor with the heat,” she said.
“Last week, the girls had a good round and then the boys came up against some tough opposition, I guess we all just have to play our part really.”
Shepparton North will be the short-priced favourite heading into Saturday’s clash given it finished 14 points ahead of second place on the section one ladder.
Having won two of the past three grand finals, Shepparton North’s Helen Jackson said her teammates are relaxed heading into another decider.
“We are a very laid-back group of players and we certainly never get overconfident at all,” Jackson said.
“It will be a great hit actually; a really good game.
“Their men are very strong and consistent.
“Their women are very consistent too.”
Saturday will also see Karramomus take on Shepparton North for the section two grand final at Central Park.
