No, it’s not Donald Trump.
It’s sociologist Cory Alpert, joined by multidisciplinary artist Scotty So, on the Treachery of Images tour, exploring artificial intelligence, truth, and the information we receive.
As misinformation and disinformation permeate daily conversations, the pair raise a head-scratching question: what is truth?
Mr Alpert brings a wealth of experience on the subject from his work on presidential campaigns, focusing on how technology influences societal trust and political engagement.
His research investigates how AI disrupts traditional democratic norms, altering our relationship with information and each other.
Whereas Mr So’s work is about lies.
Using performance, painting, and installation, the acclaimed artist showcases what might be real to probe the boundaries of reality and truth.
His work explores themes of identity, deception, and authenticity in the digital age.
Together, Mr Alpert and Mr So are on a mission to foster dialogue and invite others to reconsider how 21st-century technologies have reshaped our understanding of truth.
With the Australian election fast approaching, they emphasise that this tour is not a political campaign, but rather aims to spark important conversations in our AI-driven world.
The Treachery of Images: Truth in the Age of Algorithms with Cory Alpert and Scotty So is on Wednesday, March 5, at 6pm at the Shepparton Library, 41-42 Marungi St, Shepparton.
Bookings are preferred and can be made on the Goulburn Valley Libraries website under the events tab, by calling 1300 374 765 or emailing shepparton@gvlibraries.com
