The tournament’s namesake, Peter Fraser, is a legend in both the Goulburn Murray Golf Association and KPGC, holding life membership with both.
He has an illustrious administrative resume as well, spending 17 years as district chairman, 30 years as junior development head and 51 years as club secretary along with his 13 club championships.
The classic will be held on Sunday, March 30 for juniors aged 18 and under and will feature different grades for differing skill levels.
There will be an option to participate in either nine holes or 18 holes, with handicap and no-handicap grades depending on entries and handicap ranges.
If there are enough participants, male and female grades will be split, with the overall best male and female scratch getting their name etched in history on the perpetual trophy.
The nine-hole rolling start will take place from 9.30am to 10.30am with the 18-hole shotgun start kicking off at 12.30pm.
Lunch will be served from 11am and will be $10 for non-players.
The presentation for the nine-hole event will start at 1pm, with the 18-hole presentation taking place at the end of the day.
KPGC junior chair Naomi Cartwright reflected on what Fraser meant to the club and junior golf as a whole in the region.
“Peter has basically been involved with the club since its inception and we wanted to recognise Peter’s contributions to junior golf in the region,” she said.
“We thought it was time to revamp the junior program and that is why we’ve started up the tournament this year.
“It is a course that any kid can play and doesn’t kill their joy in playing a long course — it’s very beginner friendly.
“Sometimes there is no words to describe Peter’s contributions; he’s a stalwart, he’s a driver of junior golf and he’s contributed hugely to where the club is today.”
