Two more local animal farms have been targeted by activists, who have reported finding “disease, infection, cannibalism and suffering”.
On Tuesday, February 25, the Farm Transparency Project released footage from inside two more pig farms in the Kyabram and district area.
This brings the total of targeted pig farms in the area to three, and 20 pig farms across Victoria.
The Farm Transparency Project said anonymous investigators filmed the inside of 20 pig farms across Victoria over the January 18-19 weekend, capturing footage of dead piglets and the inside of farrowing sheds.
The activist organisation has been releasing footage from inside each pig farm since late January, calling on the government to put a stop to animal cruelty on farms.
“For over 10 years, the pig industry has been shown to be one of the largest and most horrific causes of animal suffering in Australia,” project executive director Chris Delforce said.
“The time for small improvements has long since past. It needs to be shut down, and it needs to be shut down now."
When the first round of footage was released at the end of January, the Free Press reached out to Agriculture Victoria for comment.
A representative confirmed Agriculture Victoria had received an animal welfare report regarding Victorian piggeries and would begin investigating as a “matter of priority”.
