Friday night was the setting for the final U12 derby of the season. Both teams were keen to get the win heading into the end of the home and away season.
The Red team won the toss and chose to have a bat. Jack McKenzie opened for the Red’s and tore it apart with an unbeaten 24 no off 25 balls. Ollie Ross pitched in with 12 runs before being dismissed, but helping his team set the target of 81.
For the Blue team, Luke Conway was causing havoc with the ball, picking up three very handy wickets for the match off his two overs and only conceding six runs.
When the Blue team took to the crease, things got off to a shaky start, losing some quick wickets early but Tom Lambert (17) settled the team and was assisted by Ted Clancy (14no) and Toby Smith who make an outstanding contribution of 23no.
Jack McKenzie and Louis Horne for the Red team both picked up two wickets each, but unfortunately not enough for them to defend the score they set.
Final Score:
U12 Blue – 8/96 (18)
U12 Red – 7/81 (20)
U12 Green
Over at Arundel St, the Green team hosted Delatite. The Green team went in for a bat first up and put on an all round team effort making the runs. Sam Mount (13no) was the top scorer with Bentley Parker (12no), Lincoln Richardson (11) and Jaxson Heatherill (11no) all pitching in to set the chase at 104.
Final Score:
U12 Green – 5/104 (20)
Delatite – 8/45 (13)
U14 Blue
Heading out to Milawa after a last minute ground change, the U14 Blue team were given the chance to have a bowl in their game against Greta.
Xavier DeFazio was working some magic with the ball and had Greta in all sorts of trouble picking up 4-4 from six overs, including three maidens.
Holding Greta to a total of 82 sets up an impressive chase next week.
U14 Red
The U14 Red team travelled to Rutherglen, lost the toss and were asked to bat.
Harry Skelton and Tom Mount put on an impressive opening partnership before both being dismissed within a few overs of each other.
Lightning halted the game at 14 overs but after a short delay, the teams were able to finish off 20 overs. The Red Bushies will continue to bat next week for a further 10 overs before changeover.
U16
Day one against Delatite at the Gardens saw the Bushies take to the crease for a bat. Lucas Ham (14) and Mitchell Cooney (13) started strong with Bryce Cooney (28) helping to get the scoreboard ticking over.
Josh Hart made an impressive half century before being bowled on 51 and Riley McCarthy was able to put away some great shots and made 31no for the side.
Next week the U16s will be defending 156 and hopeful they can secure a spot in the finals with a win.
Seniors
A Grade
The Bushies A Grade side, coming off a great win from the week before, were confident to put a good score on the board after electing to bat first.
Brayden Stepien made a handy 24 before being bowled and although some others in the team made reasonable runs, it just wasn’t enough and the Bushies were all out after only 50 overs with a total of 95 runs.
There is a lot of work required with the ball next week if they hope to make it two wins in a row.
A-Reserve
A Res were riding high after their win from the week before and were hopeful they could carry that over into this weeks game.
Winning the toss and sending their opponents, Wangaratta Magpies, into bat the Bushies began to dismantle the Maggies batting line up.
James Ladd picked up three wickets and Kallum Croxford pitched in with two of his own, restricting the Magpies to 98 and not allowing anyone to score over 17, the Bushies went in to bat.
Vishal Sharma continued his outstanding form making 48 off 28 balls and unlucky not to get the half century. Leigh Pollard showed some absolute class making 32no with Stewart McLeod adding support with 17 of his own.
Final Score:
A Res Bushies – 3/112 (12)
Wangaratta Magpies – 9/98 (36.3)
B Grade
B Grade travelled up to Wang to face the Rovers and decided to bat first and set the tone.
After a shaky start, Cody Crawford (19) and Brendan Duncombe (19) both settled the team and got the runs ticking over.
Mat Hadj, inspired by his U12 Green team’s win that morning, piled on 33 runs for his team with Xavier DeFazio contributing another 12.
After all the wickets fell, the Bushies had set the target for the Rovers of 108 to beat.
Wickets were hard to come by defending the runs and the openers for the Rovers all made handy knocks of 20 plus runs. Trevor Saker showed that age is no barrier for quick reflexes by picking up two vital stumpings.
Final Score:
B Grade Bushies – 10/108 (35.1)
Rovers – 3/109 (33)
C Grade Blue
The Blue C Grade team were hosted by a passionate Yarrawonga side and the visitors sent the Bushies out for a bowl first up.
The bowling and fielding from all players, young and old, was tight and consistent. One of the Yarra boys made 113 before the Hart brothers, Josh and Jack, combined for the vital wicket.
Steve Hart, not to be outdone by his boys, put on a bowling masterclass with 3-5 off three overs.
That batter did the most damage and left the Bushies with a target of 197 to chase.
Sam Hazell kicked things off and quickly added 34 to the scorecard with Paul Montgomery (14) and Christian DeFazio (16) contributing.
Josh Hart continued on with his good form with the bat and picked up 27 to his name with Mark Osborne (22) and Jack Hart (17) also adding healthy totals to the chase.
