Jerilderie v Blighty
Jerilderie was no match for Katunga last week in a worrying sign for the Demons.
After leading at quarter-time Jerilderie did not give a yelp, kicking just 3.3 for the remainder of the contest and going down by 61 points.
Brad Parker’s three majors were impressive, but the Demons need more from the entire group if they are to knock off Blighty on Saturday.
The Redeyes eventually claimed victory against Mathoura after trailing at the main break, with Brock Close’s four goals and the performance of Tanner Robertson crucial in the result.
Darcy Morris, Lachie MacDonald, Jack Bunnett and Beau Close were also standouts for Blighty in the win.
Katamatite v Rennie
Although Katamatite was missing a host of stars against Berrigan last week it never gave itself a chance of victory after conceding 12 scoring shots to one in the first term.
The Tigers will need to be on from the outset when they welcome Rennie on Saturday, with giving away a big early lead the last thing on coach Jedd Wright’s agenda.
Pat Riordan, Brodie McDonald and Tom Buzza were among Katamatite’s better performers last week and should be important again this time around.
The Grasshoppers reigned supreme in a grand final replay against Picola United last round as Khris Willett (four goals) and Matt McCabe (three) ran riot.
Mathoura v Berrigan
Mathoura will look to avoid another second-half fadeout this weekend after letting slip a lead at the main break in a loss to Blighty.
‘‘Games are never going to be won by playing one half of footy,’’ Mathoura coach Darcy Robinson told the Riverine Herald.
‘‘It’s becoming a big problem that is hurting how our season is shaping.
‘‘The loss doesn’t sit well when you’re expected to win a game.
‘‘We got beaten in areas of the game which we pride ourselves on.’’
The Saints are marching to a potential top four finish, with Ted Walliss (four goals) and Adam Way starring in a win against Katamatite last week.
Yarroweyah v Picola United
Yarroweyah could not go with Strathmerton for the entire day last week, but will attempt to rectify that against Picola United on Saturday.
‘‘We had a go at them early and in patches in the first half, but we couldn’t keep up with them,’’ Yarroweyah co-coach Geoff Benson told the Cobram Courier.
‘‘We were decent in the contest for the ball, but outside of stoppages they ran away from us.’’
The Blues went down to Rennie in a grand final rematch with Adam and Blake Jorgensen best afield, but will be without the latter against the Hoppers as he returns to Murray Football League outfit Nathalia.
