Standing in front of a wall of paint samples trying to select the perfect shade of white, you could be excused for thinking there was a separate rainbow just for whites.
Interior designer Paula Dohrman from Walls & Windows in Shepparton explained there were cool and warm whites.
Cool whites have a blue undertone and complement modern minimalist styles, while their sunny counterparts have a yellow tint and help soften a space.
In the middle are organic whites and Paula said these were becoming a popular choice.
“People are really going for a natural white which has no blues, no yellows in it,” Paula said.
A natural approach to this classic paint colour creates a fresh backdrop that will allow everything else — flooring, furnishings and features — to pop.
Paula said a clean base meant you could layer a space with colour, texture and movement, and particularly paired well with natural timbers and rattan.
“White goes with everything,” she said.
“When you put anything in the room it’s going to strengthen the colour.”
