Shepparton recorded an average daytime maximum temperature of 32.6℃, higher than last January’s average of 29.6℃. This year’s figure was slightly above the mean temperature for January since records began in 1996, of 32℃.
We had some toasty days, with the hottest being Monday, January 27 ,with a scorching 41.7℃, one of three 40°C-plus days.
Last January, the hottest day reached only 36℃, on January 12, 2024. But 2025’s hottest day doesn’t compare to January 25, 2019, which saw Shepparton reach 46.2℃, the highest figure since records began.
The coldest day felt like a massive reprieve, when on Monday, January 6, Shepparton reached only 22.1℃.
This is cooler than last year’s lowest daytime maximum, with January 7, 2024 climbing to 23.5℃. Both temperatures aren’t as chilly as the coldest January maximum temperature recorded, when the Shepparton Airport recorded a high of 17.7℃ on January 13, 2013.
The nights were just as hot last month, with an average minimum temperature of 16℃.
This average was similar to last year, with nights in January 2024 averaging 16.3℃. Since records began, the mean night-time minimum temperature is slightly lower, sitting at 15.5℃.
There was lots of tossing and turning on the night of Wednesday, January 15, with a sticky minimum temperature of 22.5℃.
Similarly, last year’s highest night-time minimum temperature was 22.1℃, on January 13, 2024. These nights don’t quite compare to one hot night on January 9, 2004, when it got down to only 29.1℃.
One night was colder than the rest last month, when the mercury fell to 10.9℃ on Saturday, January 18 — close to January 2024’s coldest night, when it dropped to 10℃.
But these nights were still warmer than the coldest night ever recorded, when Shepparton endured a shivering 5.6°C on January 9, 2004.
In terms of rain, it was a dry month, only raining on five days this month.
The highest rainfall occurred on Tuesday, January 7, with 12.6mm of rain, with a total of 20.4mm for the whole month, falling well short of January’s mean rainfall of 34.5mm.
January 2024 saw the highest amount of rainfall ever recorded in January, with 139.2mm of rain drenching Shepparton.
