Greater Shepparton City Council has announced a new waste contract will begin on Feburary 1, with new contractors in charge but no changes or impacts to residents’ bin collection schedules.
The new contract with Foott, Biomix and Cleanaway will replace the one with Veolia and Western Composting Technology.
After the contract was awarded originally to Wheelie Waste, since Veolia took over operations in 2019, there have been 10 million bin collections across Greater Shepparton, about 50,000 tonnes of food organics and garden organics diverted from landfill and about 30,000 tonnes of recyclable items recovered and recycled.
Since the introduction of food organics to the green-lid bin in 2015, Western Composting has processed and diverted about 100,000 tonnes of food organics and garden organics from landfill.
Council manager resource recovery Liam Moller thanked both businesses for their contributions in improving the region’s resource recovery.
“We would like to recognise and thank both Veolia and Western Composting for their service to council and our residents,” he said.
“Both businesses have been great to work with and have assisted council in making positive changes to the region’s waste collection and improvements in diversion from landfill.”
With the new collection service starting on Feburary 1, residents should be advised that while the truck collecting their bin may be different, nothing else will change.
Residents are reminded that:
- Bins need to be placed on the kerb the night before their bin collection day.
- While the bin collection day will not change, the time of day at which your bin may be collected is subject to change.
- If your bin is not collected, please report the missed collection to council within 24 hours. For residents on a Friday collection, this period extends to Monday.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while the transition to the new waste contract is undertaken,” Mr Moller said.
“While significant planning has been undertaken to ensure a smooth transition, there may be matters which arise from time to time.
“Council looks forward to working with the new contractors, Foott, Biomix and Cleanaway, and continuing to improve our region’s resource recovery.”
