Completion will mean that 7kms of Whitehead Street from the Riverina Highway approaching Bow Street/Redlands Road will have been completed from November.
A combination of new and recycled material was used to build the new road pavement, starting with the layers under the surface.
The old road pavement was stabilised with a stronger binder and reused on the same project, adding extra pavement material where and when needed, giving it the strength and flexibility to the conditions of the existing pavement and finishing off with a 14/7mm bitumen seal surface.
Undertaken by contract and council employees, the project was funded through Fixing Local Roads, a NSW Government program enabling councils to accelerate upgrades and maintenance on their local road network.
Federation Council’s director engineering services Theo Panagopoulos said completion of the project said the rehabilitation of this section of Whitehead Street is an important step in improving road safety, accessibility and the efficiency of our road network.
“This section of Whitehead Street was in extremely poor condition and I’m sure all users of this section of the road will be pleased with the outcome,” he said.
“These works have only been made possible with the financial assistance of the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads program.”
