Moira Shire Council welcomed almost a dozen new citizens at a ceremony on Sunday, January 26, at the Cobram Civic Centre.
Hailing from the Philippines, South Africa and New Zealand, the nine new citizens included seven adults and two children.
Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson, who officiated the event, relayed a message from the federal Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Minister Tony Burke, congratulating the new citizens on their achievement.
“Becoming a citizen is an important milestone, and we are thrilled nine people have officially chosen to call our shire home,” Dr Emonson said.
“Every person brings new experiences, skills and perspectives to our shire, and this diversity creates a richer, stronger and more vibrant community.
“We look forward to seeing our newest citizens’ contributions to our area and the role they will play in Moira Shire’s future.
“Citizenship is an exciting time for our newest residents and something they will cherish for ever. We wish them every success as they start this new chapter of their lives.”
