Volunteers can engage in many roles, from working in the galleries and museum shop to assisting with public programs and events.
Anyone can be a volunteer at SAM.
With a knowledge of local geography and history useful, but not essential, volunteers should be welcoming, and come with a willingness to learn and engage.
Judith Roberts, who has been volunteering at SAM since 2022, loves going to SAM to volunteer every few weeks.
“Well, there are two things (that I like about volunteering),” she said.
“One of the things is getting the chance to regularly spend time with the art. The more you look at it, the more you notice.
“I find something new in pieces I’ve looked at hundreds of times, almost every time I come here.
“The other thing is, I really like talking to people who are looking at the art ... they have such interesting stories to tell, and it’s lovely to talk to people who are keen on art.”
If you or someone you know would like to volunteer at SAM, go to tinyurl.com/yc24dhmu or contact SAM at info@sheppartonartmuseum.com.au or call 4804 5000.
The first round of training sessions will take place on Sunday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 11.
