They particularly wish to encourage members of the Finley and Jerilderie communities to become involved in its various activities as on-call firefighters.
Finley’s newly appointed Deputy Captain Hannah Ham, who is recruitment project officer (RPO) for the Regional South 3 area, said recruitment teams could be seen in both towns spreading information about applying for the position and the benefits of this opportunity during this period of time.
On-call firefighting is a paid position with leave entitlements and offers strong camaraderie and sense of community.
In the 2023-2024 financial year, Finley had 46 callouts and Jerilderie had 27.
Incidents can include building/structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, animal rescue, assist ambulance, recovery efforts after natural disasters (bushfire, flood and cyclone), home and factory fires, flood response, bush and grass fires.
“Fire + Rescue NSW is one of the world's largest urban fire and rescue services, serving our community with courage, care and without judgement,” recruitment information states.
“Our workforce is diverse and highly skilled, made up of a variety of people, roles and skill sets.
“On-call firefighters are firefighters who wear multiple hats. They respond to calls from home or work when there is an emergency - true multi-taskers who protect and support their communities while balancing other work and family commitments.”
There are many benefits gained by becoming an on-call firefighter and some of these include qualifications for medium rigid drivers’ licence, advanced life support including defibrillator, being able to operate self-contacted breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitoring and gas detection, modules that contribute to Certificate II in Firefighting (TAFE), and work safely at heights qualifications to name a few.
An information session and barbecue will be held at Finley on Thursday, February 6 at 6pm, and Jerilderie on Wednesday, February 5 at 6pm.
Zone Commander Frank Finlay will attend at Finley, and Zone Commander Daryl Manson will be at Jerilderie where there will also be a drone demonstration.
