The volunteer-powered organisation, which provides support services, resources and events, turns 20 this year.
It’s assembling some troops to join the local cohort on a bus trip to the march in St Kilda on February 2.
“Many allies and supporters of the LGBTIQA+ community are looking for opportunities to show support, to do something else when they can’t donate money,” GV Pride’s Damien Stevens-Todd said.
“They are angry that their friends from the LGBTIQA+ community are still having to march.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for regional folk to jump on the bus and travel and march in solidarity and pride at the Pride March in St Kilda as part of the Midsumma festival.”
Mr Stevens-Todd invited people to join the bus trip dressed however they felt comfortable, and to bring water, snacks and sun protection.
If they were looking for theme inspiration, however, they could wear green or emerald, which is the gemstone that symbolises a 20th anniversary.
“Some will be wearing green sequins and Wizard of Oz or Wicked costumes (for the Emerald City and green witch Elphaba references),” Mr Stevens-Todd said.
“Mostly it’s all about fun and getting involved.”
Mr Stevens said the vibe on the 44-seater air-conditioned bus would be energetic and joyful, but mindful of those needing quiet spaces.
He said people should not be hesitant to book seats because they thought it might take one from someone in the LGBTIQA+ community.
“If we fill the bus, we’ll just get another one,” Mr Stevens-Todd said.
The event kicks off along Fitzroy St, St Kilda, at 11am with a procession by Dykes on Bikes, whom groups of marchers follow.
This year, a new Rainbow Recharge Hub for travelling groups will be introduced, which is a space for regional and rural communities, ageing community members and rainbow families who may need a place to rest, recharge and reconnect during the celebrations.
“Whether you join the fanfare by foot or by wheel, with workmates or with family, with friends or with lovers, as ally or as queer, Midsumma Pride March is for you,” GV Pride’s website reads.
The bus departs Shepparton Library in Marungi St at 7am on Sunday, February 2, and returns at 6pm the same day.
It is free for GV Pride members and $25 for non-members.
