“It was a super win,” Corowa Cricket Club President Paul Lavis told The Free Press. The 48-run victory at Ball Park has the Roos leaping to fourth on the ladder. Next match is at East Albury on January 11.
Two excellent partnerships set up Corowa’s good total of 202. Smith and Matt Wilson had an opening partnership of 52 runs with Wilson making a very handy 30 runs. Jared Lane made 28 in a partnership of 63 runs. Bating at number six, Patrick Lavis compiled 29 off 33 balls.
In his debut, Joe Lavis was unbeaten on four from seven deliveries.
St Pats were in strife at 3-25. Star bat Liam Scammel made 73 but the visitors were up against it.
Corowa’s Nick Grant bowled beautifully, conceding just 12 runs from his seven overs and dismissing four batsmen.
It was a good allround effort from Patty Lavis who bowled really well, conceding just eight runs off his first seven overs in taking two wickets, ending up with the fine figures of 3-28 from 10 overs. He also took a terrific catch.
Corowa’s fielding was first class with some great catches late in the innings. Jared Lane took a beauty at square leg. And one shot was heading for six until Patty Lavis jumped high to reel in a spectacular catch.
With an earlier deadline for this week’s Free Press, cricket reports from last weekend’s games will appear in the Free Press of January 8.
