The Jets comfortably defended the 6-283 they compiled on day one of their clash against Central Park-St Brendan’s, bowling the Tigers out for 126 at Deakin Reserve on Saturday.
After the home side had worked its way to 1-63, it was Zane Newbound who changed the complexion of the clash, snaring three quick wickets to leave the Tigers’ middle order in tatters.
‘‘It was a really good game for us,’’ Northerners coach Steve Allen said.
‘‘It sort of sets up the remainder of the year and gives us some confidence for hopefully a deep finals run.
‘‘It was a solid start, we got a wicket early, but they pushed past 50 after that.
‘‘But a spell of three wickets in two overs from Zane really turned it around for us and put the pressure right on.’’
Newbound finished with figures of 3-23 from eight overs, with Grant Hutchins (3-12) and Ryan Sidebottom (3-24) also providing the Jets with plenty of firepower.
The Jets are in fifth spot on the table, but have a game’s advantage over seventh and remain within striking distance of third.
‘‘How far we go is up to us from here on in,’’ Allen said.
‘‘Two games in a row now we’ve made a decent score with the bat and bowled well defending, so there’s plenty of confidence there.’’
For the Tigers, Brendan Scott (29), Xavier Chalkley (27) and Connor Holland (26) all ground out decent scores from more than 60 deliveries and 80 minutes at the crease apiece, but it was not enough to steer their side to victory.
