Regional Victorians wanted for federal election jobs

The Australian Electoral Commission is looking for paid workers across regional Victoria to help in the next federal election.

While the AEC has had strong recruitment interest for the next election, more people are needed throughout the state, especially in certain electorates.

Electorates where the AEC needs people

Nicholls – including areas like Rushworth, Rochester, Echuca, Gunbower, Avenel, Merrigum, Stanhope, Undera, Shepparton, Cobram, Seymour, Yarrawonga and Pyalong.
Mallee – including areas like Bridgewater, Charlton, Dimboola, Horsham, Kerang, Maryborough, Mildura, Stawell, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal
Wannon – including areas like Ararat, Beaufort, Cobden, Colac, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Lorne, Timboon and Winchelsea
Gippsland – including areas like Mallacoota, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Buchan, Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Maffra, Heyfield, Sale, 90 Mile Beach, Yarram, Rosedale, Gormandale, Traralgon, Churchill, Morwell, Yallourn and the high country

AEC Victoria state manager Nye Coffey encouraged people in regional areas to register their interest.

“We've naturally already seen a lot of interest in and around Melbourne, but Victoria is much more than that and finding staff for regional polling places is absolutely critical," he said.

“Working at an election is an experience you'll never forget, and it's a really rare opportunity to help your community have its say.”

There are many jobs available on election day.

Election jobs vary in both type and duration, ranging from one-day roles on election day, to positions that last for the entire seven-week campaign period.

People who formerly worked at or expressed interest in the 2023 referendum or past federal elections will need to submit a new expression of interest for the 2025 federal election, as their previous interest will not carry over.
