John Strange appointed NSW women's Origin coach

The 49-year-old replaces Kylie Hilder, who stepped down following consecutive series defeats, and will be the first active NRLW coach to lead a women's Origin team.

Strange beat former NSW Origin players Jamie Soward and Brett Kimmorley to the role after both had publicly declared interest, while Jess Skinner, Ruan Sims and Kate Mullaly had been considered other options.

Strange holds a 74 per cent winning record in four seasons at the Roosters, two of which have ended in premierships.

Six of his Roosters players were selected to play for NSW in the most recent series, which the Sky Blues lost 2-1 despite a commanding game-one win.

Strange is expected to miss the beginning of the Roosters' pre-season to take on the role, with NRLW sides set to resume training in late May as the Origin sides are preparing for game three on May 29.
