After notching 213 against reigning premier Kyabram in round six, the Bloods put up another 200-plus score when facing Central Park-St Brendan’s on day one of their round seven affair at Deakin Reserve.
And, while Karramomus didn’t take the win last week, once again they’ve put themselves in the box seat to get a result.
Facing a fearsome Tigers side — though missing Jarrod Wakeling, who dazzled with a 13-wicket match the week prior — Karramomus decided to run the gauntlet after winning the toss and chose to pad up.
The decision was not immediately questioned, but when Jackson Darkes-Sutcliffe trudged off for three and Mitch McGrath for 13 in the space of two and a half overs, the waters soon became choppy.
Jayden Dhosi departed for nine runs not long after and, all of a sudden, Central Park-St Brendan’s had the upper hand.
Until, of course, Zavier Davidson strolled on in.
Smashing a six on his second delivery faced and a boundary two balls after, the young former-Northerner showed he meant business against the wise Tigers heads from the get go.
Davidson stuck around for nearly 40 overs, supported by the likes of Billy and Nathan Jones, as he crept closer and closer to what seemed likely to be the second A-grade ton of his blossoming career.
However, wisdom eventually overcame youthful bluster.
Experienced campaigner Brendan Scott trumped Davidson three runs short of a century, with his brilliant 97 arriving off 108 balls which included 13 fours and two sixes.
Once Davidson went, the rest shortly followed as none of Karramomus’ lower order was able to further boost the Bloods’ chances as the travellers finished on 201.
Scott was good for his 3-41, while captain Tyler Larkin led by example, rolling the arm over for a rare spell that landed him impressive figures of 3-27.
Central Park-St Brendan’s was then able to squeeze in three overs at the end of the day to bat, rounding out at 0-4 at stumps with Rhiley Lau (1*) and Andrew Boyington (0*) at the crease.
