The Nagambie RSL Sub-branch conducted the ceremony with Reg Dickinson, RSL’s John Sharley, Reverend Richard Pennington, RSL member Michael Smith, and Strathbogie Shire Councillor Robin Weatherald being the official party at the ceremony.
Mr Dickinson led the ceremony, and Reverend Pennington led prayers for those who served and died for our country and peace.
Young local school students were in attendance, and two of their representatives participated in the ceremony.
The poem On Flanders Fields was read by Olivia Elson, and a St Joseph’s Primary School student, Chanel Frappell, gave a reading relevant to Remembrance Day.
Representatives from the Nagambie RSL, Strathbogie Shire Council, Nagambie Lakes Men’s Shed, Nagambie CFA, two primary schools, and the local ambulance and historical society were present.
A wreath was laid on behalf of RSL member Larry King.
At the 11th hour, the Ode of Remembrance was recited by Mr Smith, the Last Post played, and there was a minute’s silence.
The flag was raised to full mast by Nagambie Primary School student Archie Boyle under John Sharley’s supervision.
Reverend Pennington led the benediction and closing prayers.
The singing of the national anthem marked the closing of the 105th anniversary of Remembrance Day at Nagambie.
Refreshments were shared at the RSL after the ceremony.
The RSL would also like to thank everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal, which raises funds for RSL welfare projects for veterans’ families.
