The poppy appeal has begun across Shepparton.

Starting on Monday, October 28 and running until Sunday, November 10, you may spot stalls across Shepparton and Mooroopna selling badges and poppies in the lead up to Remembrance Day on November 11.

Organisers Bruce and Sandy Davis have been running the Shepparton RSL’s appeal for the past 10 years, and said while they’re only just at the beginning of their sales period, the community is already showing their support.

“Sales have been steady, but it’s only just the start,” Mr Davis said.

“We’re really grateful to the public, their generosity never ceases to amaze me.”

All of the funds raised will go to support veterans, with half specifically helping out Shepparton’s veterans.

“All of the money goes to Melbourne and what we make we get half of it back, and it goes into our RSL,” Mr Davis said.

This money then will be used to help veterans in the local community, helping them with medical equipment, home and garden maintenance, household bills and more.

Every dollar raised will also be matched by the Copulos family as well, helping to ensure our veterans receive the support services they need.

Dedicated volunteers are currently stationed across stores in Shepparton selling the poppies, with honesty boxes at 22 schools across the Goulburn Valley and another 38 boxes at our local small businesses.

“We’re happy with whatever we get from the public,” Mr Davis said.

“I know times have been tough these past three to four years, yet (people) still give to Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
