Red pill or white pill?
How do Goulburn Valley League footballers spend the warmer months?
In the case of Mooroopna’s Logan Campbell and Euroa’s Ryan Hill, the answer rhymes with ticket — and funnily enough, they put on a show in their respective B-grade matches on Saturday.
Campbell smashed a half-century opening for Karramomus during their win over Waaia, following up with 5-7 with the ball at an economy of 1.1.
Meanwhile, Hill was not so fortunate on the results front.
Chasing 224 against Numurkah, the dual-Magpie whacked four-fifths of his team’s total during a Euroa tailspin that saw it barrel out 120 runs shy of the win.
However, his knock of 85 off 55 balls (11 fours, two sixes) was enough to earn him a shout out on PlayHQ’s social media — likely resulting in more Facebook tags than runs made by his teammates on Saturday.
Guppy goes troppo
Most people in Cricket Shepparton’s circle would be forgiven for assuming Raguvaran Aravinthan’s 136 not out was the biggest score around the traps on Saturday.
But you know how the saying goes.
Instead, Karramomus C-grade slasher Travis Guppy made asses out of Pine Lodge’s bowlers as he blitzed 137 not out in a vivacious display at Vibert Reserve.
Guppy did not pump the brakes once during a freak 40-over spell, cranking 15 boundaries and four maximums from his 123-ball hailstorm.
For those who assumed the Bloods won, you’d be correct.
Webber barbecues United
If Guppy was first and Aravinthan second on the weekend’s batting highlights reel, Dayne Webber’s fireworks display comes straight after.
The Pine Lodge D-grade pinch-hitter blazed 126 not out (14 fours, eight sixes) during the Lodgers’ absurdly successful chase down of Shepparton Youth Club United’s 7-248.
Curators seriously need to reconsider the boundary measurements at Kialla West Recreation Reserve after a total of 500 runs were scored in just 74 overs.
Or don’t — we’re confident Webber won’t complain.
Dowell’s devilish spell
Halloween is still a week away, but on Saturday, one Tatura player was in a wicked and wacky mood before the spooky season fully kicked off.
Xavier Dowell scared the living daylights out of Northerners, ensuring his side wouldn’t lose its SJ Perry Shield match against the Jets despite only putting 83 runs on the board to defend.
Dowell summoned the beast with figures of 6-6 off six overs (two maidens), rattling through Northerners’ entire middle order — and then some — as the Jets slumped to 46 all-out.
We’re not sure if there are any Kiwis in the Jets’ order, but we’re sure the feeling of dropping the ball during such a gettable chase sucks, sucks, sucks.
