All these and more will be on full display at the Numurkah Showgrounds on Wednesday, October 23, for the Numurkah Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s 134th Numurkah Show.
The annual event features various pavilions, exciting sideshows, the work of farmers, a large dog section, show jumping, dairy and beef cattle, and four rings for horses, including a pony club.
Feathered friends are absent this year as the poultry section was cancelled, which Numurkah Show Society secretary Jeff Stanyer said was “a bit disappointing”.
Nonetheless, the show must go on.
And it centres on a fluorescent attraction for a theme: canola.
“Our photography exhibition and some others are canola-themed, we’re having samples of different types of pasture and cropping examples, and Graincorp, one of our major sponsors, will have a display,” Mr Stanyer said.
It won’t be just the harvest having a field day, either.
The show serves as a vibrant centre for family entertainment, made possible by the holiday granted in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day.
“In Numurkah, schools get the day off, and the workers can get the day off from their boss if they’d like to,” Mr Stanyer said.
“It's always a well-attended event with a lot of interest from schools and families to come and enjoy everything we offer — show bags, rides, food trucks, an animal nursery.
“It’s truly a great show.”
