Lovell calls for more flood recovery efforts

Two years on from the 2022 flooding event, many residents across the Goulburn Valley are still affected.

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell spoke in parliament recently to call on the government to complete the recovery efforts and implement flood inquiry recommendations with more urgency.

“This week marks two years since the October 2022 floods that devastated Victoria. Many Victorians have moved on and think the recovery is finished, but it’s not. For far too many people in flood-affected areas, the process of recovery is far from over,” she said.

Rochester, Seymour, Shepparton and Mooroopna were among the towns that were the worst affected, with some residents still displaced.

“In my own street there are two homes that have not yet been repaired and three homes that have been demolished and not rebuilt. For me, it is a daily reminder of how slow and inadequate the recovery has been,” Ms Lovell said.

The final report from the 2022 flood inquiry was handed to the Victorian Government in August this year.

The final report tabled 90 findings and 73 recommendations, with the state government having six months to respond.

The Victorian Government has yet to respond.
