He will finish up at the start of November after handing in his resignation on Friday, October 4.
Mr Dodds said he has been honoured to be the council’s chief executive for nearly four years.
“From my perspective, it has certainly been a privilege to be able to live and work in a council that has such a receptive and passionate community,” he said.
“It will be sad to move on, but I made the decision to leave to take up new opportunities as chief executive of Livingstone Shire Council in Queensland.
Mr Dodds stepped into the role in February 2021.
Over this time, he highlighted seeing council staff and the community band together to defend itself during the floods, the warmly received Meninya St Redevelopment concept plan, and improvements in staff culture.
Newly elected Murray River Council Mayor John Harvie said Mr Dodds’ resignation came as a shock, and acknowledged his contribution.
“Terry has achieved some great outcomes for this council and has been a strong and effective leader during his time here,” he said.
“He has undoubtedly played a major role in bringing more stability and structure to the organisation, putting us in good stead for the future.
“It is with regret that we accept Terry’s resignation, but we certainly wish him all the best.”
Council will soon begin the recruitment process for a new chief executive.
