To mitigate the impact of the flooding, Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging community members to take advantage of the Planning and Building Assistance Rebate Scheme for Flood Recovery.
The Victorian Government initiative, in partnership with Windermere Child and Family Services, provides financial aid to homeowners rebuilding their lives after the floods.
The scheme offers eligible applicants up to $3000 per affected property.
It includes various services such as reports for planning permit applications, land surveys, title documents, planning consultant fees and building permit fees.
Council director of community Louise Mitchell encouraged affected residents in Greater Shepparton to make the most of this rebate.
“Our region went through a very difficult time following the October 2022 flood event, impacting us in many ways,” she said.
“If there was damage to your home during the flood event, it will be beneficial to apply for this rebate.”
Residents seeking the rebate must email or mail relevant receipts to Windermere.
Windermere will then review the application.
If the applicant is eligible, a payment equal to the amount shown in the provided receipts, up to $3000, will be made.
Applications for the rebate scheme close on May 31, 2025.
