Greater Shepparton City Council identified the area for urgent improvements as part of its 2020 Drainage Strategy, which focused on addressing stormwater issues that have affected the community.
Council’s acting director infrastructure, Kelli Halden said even short, intense rain events currently lead to flooding at the intersection.
“The completion of these important works will resolve this problem and also minimise localised flooding following major rainfalls events,” she said.
“Council officers have been proactively engaging with all businesses in the immediate area to ensure they are well-informed before work begins.”
The upgrade will involve installing new drainage pipes, stormwater pits, concrete kerbing and resurfacing sections of the road.
Works will start at the intersection of Drummond Rd and Joseph Baldwin Plc, continuing north along Drummond Rd and extending 200 metres east to New Dookie Rd.
During the works, the northbound lane on Drummond Rd will be closed between Joseph Baldwin Plc and New Dookie Rd from Monday, September 30 until works are complete.
The New Dookie Rd and Drummond Rd intersection will be managed by traffic controllers as required, with delays expected.
Works will take place Monday to Friday between 7am to 8pm, but weekend works may be required.
Businesses in the area will remain open during this time.
