Open to anyone motivated to become an active community member, the 8-month program provides participants with insights into regional challenges, opportunities to join a network of leaders, and tools to build their confidence and resilience.
On July 31, the 2024 Fairley Leadership Program cohort gathered to hear from local leaders, including alumni who embody the GMCL motto, ‘Lead where you live’, in Greater Shepparton.
“It was highlighted that regional centres, being highly multicultural, require a deep understanding and support from decision-makers to drive meaningful change,” 2024 Fairley Leadership Program participant Avni Bekirofski said.
Stories of resilience were shared, highlighting the challenges faced by those who chose Australia as their new home in search of a better life.
“The day proved to be a great recognition of the journey people have made from their home country and into the Shepparton region,” Goulburn Murray Community Leadership executive officer Nathan Bibby said.
“The environment provided participants of the Fairley Leadership Program an opportunity to learn about the challenges and opportunities which will help them explore how they might influence systems and support diverse communities into the future.”
Participants were inspired by the guests’ dedication to philanthropy and community building as they shared messages about the importance of knowing your local area, staying curious and open to learning, and nurturing the growth of aspiring leaders.
“Our alumni bring unique insights and experiences, showing how the program has shaped their leadership journeys and positively influenced their communities,” Mr Bibby said.
“Their presence and testimonials serve as a compelling reminder of the program’s effectiveness, inspiring current participants and underscoring the lasting value of strong, engaged leadership.
“By sharing their stories, they highlight the transformative power of the program and its ability to drive meaningful change, fostering a sense of continuity and community among all participants.
“Having previous Fairley leadership participants deliver these crucial messages is both powerful and inspiring.
“Their involvement not only reinforces the importance of the messages but also demonstrates the tangible impact of the Fairley Leadership Program.”
