The longest race held thus far saw 221 birds, representing 11 trainers, released at 9am in Gunbar, around 250km from their home lofts.
Phillip King continued his strong form in 2024, with his birds coming home to roost in just over six hours.
The time represented an average velocity of 679.74 metres per minute, the fastest among the field.
Echuca’s Andrew ‘Bear’ Williamson earned second place with a speed of 628.83, while C.R. and D. Robb, also of Echuca, claimed third with a mark of 622.40.
Echuca’s Rod Clark (611.30), Moama’s M and P Racing (577.28) and Kyabram’s John Carroll (547.32) rounded out the top six.
Five of the 11 trainers also competed in a bonus raffle race, also starting in Gunbar on Sunday.
C. R. and D. Robb were entered twice and took out a personal quinella, grabbing both first place, with a velocity of 622.40, and second at 621.487.
Kyabram’s Gary Rayner took out third place at a velocity of 536.01 while Phillip King (166.39), John Carroll (141.13), and M and P Racing’s (134.163) birds had a tougher time.
