In Victoria, grassroots football and netball clubs are accustomed to their players lining up for a barrel or a bend and flick to the goal ring.

Now, they have a shot at scoring a share of $600,000.
The Transport Accident Commission has kicked off this year’s TAC Club Rewards program, inviting clubs affiliated with AFL Victoria to champion road safety among their members throughout the season.
The program, now in its fifth year, allows clubs to apply for up to $10,000 in grant funding.
The grants aim to support club improvements, from routine needs such as new equipment and uniforms to larger projects such as facility upgrades and club transport.
State Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said the latter was paramount in ensuring the safety of local footballers and netballers who travelled long distances to attend training and games each week.
Hence, they play a critical role in TAC’s initiative.
“Clubs will be asked to start conversations and be part of the campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, with the tagline, ‘Show up for your team. Slow down on the road’,” she said.
