Mr Lucas said the song was written after an encounter with someone from his past.
“Overdrive was inspired after a rather cheeky moment in my life,” he said.
“When I broke up with my ex, I was left in this limbo phase where I was still not over him and one night I saw him out, and we couldn’t help but hook up. He sent me into overdrive.”
The music video for Mr Lucas’ new single was filmed in Melbourne, featuring a stacked cast, including Melbourne drag queens Dilonce and Valencia, who both appear in the dance scenes.
Mr Lucas has been performing since the age of six, appeared on season seven of The X Factor Australia and was a finalist of the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
More recently, he performed his new hit Overdrive at the inaugural LGBTQIA+ People’s Choice Awards, presented by Euphoria Social in Melbourne.
Overdrive follows the success of his previous single, Ghosts of You, which saw plenty of international success, reaching the Top 40 in Romania and the Top 400 Countdown on Sweden’s NRJ Radio.
