Mooroopna Primary School principal Karen Goodwin believes that sense of community is responsible for the staying power of the school she leads, which celebrates its 150th anniversary in July.
Celebrations to mark the occasion will begin with the ringing of the bell to officially open the event, which will include historical society and community service group displays, a performance by the school band, a reveal of principal, school and house captain honour boards, and a time capsule.
Mrs Goodwin, who returned to the school as principal just over a year ago and spent 10 years as an assistant principal there previously, said it had been great hearing from former students and staff who had stories to share.
“The students and community are looking forward to the event,” she said.
“Students are especially excited about our 150-year hoodies and beanies.”
The 226 students enrolled at the school have been learning about its history in the lead-up to the milestone, with older students interviewing past students and staff.
“They have been involved in display preparations as well,” Mrs Goodwin said.
“They will also be involved with activities on the day.”
The occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, July 20. On the day, there will be activities for children and school tours, as well as food, drinks and merchandise for sale.
“We are looking forward to sharing this milestone with our community,” Mrs Goodwin said.
