Heading to Comets Stadium for a knockout FFA Cup fixture, the Suns controlled the clash against Casey to secure a 4-1 triumph on the road and progression to the next round of the competition.
But the victory was not without drama.
The Suns opened the scoring in the 72nd minute through a Vani Shamoon cut-back which found the boot of Adam Gatcum — just rewards for the overwhelming majority of possession in the clash.
The Comets found an equaliser in the 84th minute though, pushing the game past its allocated 90 and into extra time to decide a winner.
It was there where the Suns really excelled, scoring through Jamie England, Darcy Pawlik and Brandon Giaccherini to make sure of their success.
“The FFA Cup is certainly a competition that we don't take lightly and it is great to still be alive,” Suns coach Craig Carley said.
“It's great exposure for the club and creates a great feeling when you're winning as well.
“We probably had at least 80 per cent of the ball, the Comets weren't keen on attacking at all and they just sat in and looked to get us on the counter.
“Our fitness and our class showed in the end.”
With two wins from two outings in the cup — as well as the National Premier League — the Orangemen are practically glowing with excitement in the early stages of the season.
“It's a great environment to be in at the moment,” Carley said.
“The boys are buzzing and really buying into the game plan that we're trying to implement.
“Not many people expected us to be four from four, but we're building plenty of momentum and excitement.”
Ellis Williamson stood out at centre-back for the Suns on Saturday — as did Gatcum.
“Adam's been phenomenal this year,” Carley said.
“The season off through COVID has been a blessing in disguise for him, he's super fit and that's a large part of why he's scoring goals consistently from right-back.”
