On the one day of winter some might hope for a bit of wind in its chilliness, the skies above Shepparton Showgrounds will be brightened as colourful kites dance and sway in the breeze.
But this isn’t just a couple of people out flying their toys at the park on a weekend; a whole kite festival is coming to town.
The free event will be held on Saturday, August 3, from 10am to 5pm.
Patrons can expect more than just the opportunity to fly kites at the Shepparton Kite Festival.
They can also get some tuition on how to fly their kites, as well as explore other interactive activities for all ages, including face-painting and games, and have a bounce on a jumping castle.
If flying a kite isn’t your thing, there will be food trucks to grab a feed from, market stalls to browse and a DJ pumping out tunes while spectating the action above.
Kites and threads will be available to purchase at the venue on the day, priced from $20.
For safety reasons, no outside kites and threads are permitted at the event.
While there is no entry fee, organisers request patrons register for the event.
