The Celebrating Culinary Careers fundraiser will involve a five-course meal created by five renowned chefs.
Celebrated patissier Mr Zumbo is among the guest chefs lined up to cook for the evening.
“I was excited to be asked to be a part of this, and I’m looking forward to the night. I think it’ll be a great one,” he said.
Mr Zumbo has always had a passion for baking, and left school at 15 to become an apprentice.
Despite his myriad career achievements, including appearing on Masterchef, his favourite part of his job is much simpler.
“The memories you create for other people are the biggest highlight for me and the most memorable. That’s probably the highlight of my career,” Mr Zumbo said.
“I think all those kinds of things like Masterchef are great, and you meet some amazing people, and you help some good causes, create some great creative stuff, but in the end, it’s all about the people.”
Mr Zumbo said his job never got old, and he liked to create new challenges.
“I think the beautiful thing about baking is it’s always different,” he said.
“In some jobs, you don’t use all those skills, but I do a lot of freelance work, and I get to use many different baking skills. Just being able to do something new keeps it exciting.
“I always say that to be in this type of job, you have to love even washing the dishes because, at different points, everyone has to do that stuff.
“If I have to crack 100 eggs, and that can get boring, then I make into a new challenge, a new game, and I’ll try and see how long I can go without breaking a yolk.”
Celebrating Culinary Careers will take place on May 17 at Morrisons Winery from 6-11pm. Tickets are $250, and the proceeds will go towards mental health and wellbeing programs at Echuca Regional Health.
Tickets for the evening are available at trybooking.com/CQIJF. Bookings close May 5, and Sarah Crossman can be reached at 5485 5087 for any further enquiries.
