An eight-person-strong squad of swimmers headed to the Victorian All Junior Championships meet in Bendigo East on February 18, with Hunter Trevena, Keisha Hall, Emma Prewett, Kayla O’Grady, Lachlan Nagle, Charlotte Wilson, Jack Hawkins and Mitchell Edwards all putting in superb performances.
The trio of Nagle, Wilson and Hawkins recorded impressive times in their given events that then saw them progress to the Central Victoria Swimming Championships on March 3, where they were joined by teammate Ayla McAsey in lighting up the times charts.
Nagle shone in the boys’ (12 years) 100m freestyle and breaststroke finals, recording times of 1.13.80 and 1.51.18 respectively to take the win in both races, while a time of 1.28.19 in the 100m backstroke final netted him second place.
Hawkins also scored a number of podium finishes, placing second in both the boys’ (13 years) 100m butterfly (1.34.32) and the 100m breaststroke (1.30.09), while finishing third in the 200m individual medley (3.08.73).
Wilson narrowly missed the podium in the girls (13 years) 100m breaststroke, finishing fourth (1.33.68), while claiming seventh spot in both the 100m backstroke (1.31.44) and 200m individual medley (3.08.55).

McAsey ensured ESC came away with three wins on the day, winning the 50m backstroke multi-class (54.92) event, while finishing second in the mixed 50m freestyle multi-class (48.89) race.
It continues a fantastic string of results for the young gun, who recently qualified for the Australian Age Championships which will be held on the Gold Coast this April.
The qualification comes after some brilliant swimming saw McAsey claim the win in both the girls’ (12-18 years) 50m and 100m backstroke multi-class categories at the Victorian Age Long Course Championships in December, where she also claimed second and third in the 50m and 100m freestyle races.
Despite a busy race schedule, ESC has also been running the highly successful Next Level Program every Saturday.
The program provides kids who have proceeded to the next level of school competitions with some instruction and a better understanding of the basics, while also giving prospective members a chance to have a session with the club.
The ever-growing club is always accepting of new members, but is especially keen to hear from potential coaches. Interested parties can contact echucaswimclub.president@gmail.com for more information.
