The club hosted its annual general meeting in November, which saw all previous executive committee members step down, leaving the club with a number of positions which required filling in order for the club to function.
Nathan Brumby was one of the few to throw his hand up at the AGM, taking on the role of club president next season.
He says the work of the executive committee during the past few years has seen the club go from strength to strength.
It’s work he hopes to continue in 2022.
“What these guys have done in the last four years with such a skeleton crew is nothing short of a miracle, to be honest,” Brumby said.
“Our biggest thing is being able to run this more as a community-based thing as opposed to motorcycle racing ride days; it’s all very individual, it’s definitely no soccer or netball club, for example.
“It’s a matter of me and the team trying to build that now, and build our own community within the club,” he said.
After bouncing back from a COVID-19-affected season in 2020, Brumby says the club is looking to build on the success it experienced this year after member numbers dramatically improved thanks to a price restructure.
“This year we offered half-price sign-up memberships; the difference was about 160 new members when we offered half-price memberships, so we’ve standardised that.”
Brumby says aside from building the community, he hopes to expand the club’s volunteer network which will improve the functionality of the club, moving away from a reliance on parents and riders.
“Our biggest thing is flaggies — what the club has heavily relied on in the last few years is if you’re a parent and you turn up with kids, we need people to be flag posting and a lot of that heavily relies on the parents; 99 per cent of the time it’s always the same parents getting dragged in to do it.
“I want to try and look at alleviating that by having a whole separate volunteer group that, while they may have previous history or have been heavily invested in motorbikes throughout their life, they don’t have kids coming to the track and can contribute their time into the club.”
