This Saturday Merrigum travels to Tallygaroopna for the first pennant game and the selectors have already named the team. The club welcomes Glen Smith and wishes him all the best in his first-up game as skipper.
On Tuesday week Merrigum travels to Shepparton Golf for the first Tuesday pennant game. The club has new rings for this season so please make sure you have them on your bowls before you start. Cost of the rings is $2 for the first set and from then on replacement sets are free.
The club offers its condolences to Sally Horan and family on the passing of her partner Geoff Taylor. Geoff was a regular visitor to Merrigum for the Thursday night meal and he will be missed by all the members.
This Thursday night is the first meal for the season. Numbers attending are required by Wednesday night because of the catering. The meal begins at 6pm and then you are free to have a roll or sit around and enjoy the company of the members. It would be appreciated if members could bring along a salad. At this stage the cost of the meals will be the same as last year but this is being reviewed by the board. Please contact Joe on 0428 552 466 to make your booking.
The donations for the Christmas hamper have started to roll in already and Maureen and Lee will be putting the books together for the members to sell.
Let’s hope everyone can enjoy this new season as it has taken quite a while to start.

SHEPPARTON GOLF
The club’s opening day was held on Saturday, with president Richard Warburton welcoming 11 new bowlers to the club. Three have transferred from other clubs, two are past members returning after playing at other clubs, four are past members who haven’t played pennant for several seasons, and two will be playing pennant bowls for the first time. A warm welcome to all of these new members.
At the opening day on Saturday, Frank O’Meara, a life member of the club and still playing pennant bowls at 90 years of age, was given the honour of rolling the opening jack for the season, while recently-retired past member Norma Poustie had the opening bowl.
Following an intra-club practice match, an amazing afternoon tea was provided by the members. Several recently retired members were welcomed back to the club as a thank you for many years of service they have given to the club.
Two rounds of the men’s B-grade club singles will be played on Sunday, with the semi-final to be played the following Sunday. Two rounds of the men’s A-grade singles will be played on November 21. The play-by date for the first round of the women’s A-grade club singles is November 21.
The club has new rings for members to stick on their bowls, with JG King Homes the new sponsor. These new stickers can be collected from the clubrooms.
MOOROOPNA
With the start of pennant just around the corner, Mooroopna is looking forward to a great season with the influx of several new members. With two teams nominated on Saturdays and one in midweek it will be full steam ahead.
Members have been hard at practice on a Friday afternoon with a social gathering afterwards.
Since the relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions bowlers have been playing socially on Wednesday and Saturday afternoon with comfortable attendances. With players drawing for teams, there have been some very close games. Come join in for a grand social afternoon of bowling and enjoy a nicely cooked sausage after the first game.
The school program is about to commence and would appreciate any support from members who can help.
Bingo will restart this week and patrons are most welcome; games are held each Wednesday evening with eyes down at 7.30pm.
Club games entry forms are on the boards for the championship singles and B-singles for both women and men. Please read conditions when entering. Handicaps will also be ready very shortly.
Membership fees are due and Sandy would be very pleased to see you.
SHEPPARTON PARK
The new opening day is this Friday, November 5 with a barbecue at 6pm and two games of two-bowl triples to commence at 6.30pm. Place names on the board by tonight or contact Val Gibbs or David Slingo.
Several club games were completed on Sunday, October 31 and the schedule is tight to get games completed on time, so get your matches organised.
The start of the 60-and-over competition has been brought forward a week and games will now begin Wednesday, November 10 with the first round at Shepparton Golf. Norm Mitchelmore is the contact person for 60-and-over.
Shepparton Park had a good workout against Euroa/Avenel last weekend with Shepparton Park prevailing on most rinks. The best performing rink for Shepparton Park was Leonie Freeman, Lynton Burkitt, Peter Fraser and Doug Freeman.
Everyone is looking forward to the start of Saturday pennant this Saturday while for midweek it will be Tuesday, November 9.
The popular 2x2 pairs will re-commence today, Thursday, November 4 with a 10.30am start. A salad roll lunch will be included with entry. Names on the board or phone Graeme Sinclair on 0418 395 388.
Remember that participating bowlers in all events must be fully vaccinated.
Wednesday night social bowls/night pennant has commenced, with record numbers of participants enjoying some great bowls and fellowship. Angelo Russo is the co-ordinator for this event.
On cup day the previously postponed winter fours final day was celebrated. Players enjoyed a lovely lunch and afternoon tea. The weather was magnificent with plenty of cup sweeps and novelties to entertain the participants.
Best rink on the day was Dennis Smyth, Cathy Dudley, Keith Dudley and Peter Brodie. Runners-up were Lyn Oliver, Joy Cuthbert, Marie Pedretti and Jim Oliver.
Moira Smith successfully picked the jackpot so her team of Marg Tweddle, Lina Conti and Ellen Cameron went home $180 better off.
The consolation prize was won by Pauline Naylor’s team from Euroa while consolation runners-up were Yvonne Clark’s team from Numurkah Golf.
The fashions on the field, best headware, was won by Marg Tweddle with Bree Warren and Pauline Naylor also impressive in second and third place respectively. Many thanks to Bev Cahill for organising a great day and the whole winter competition.
EAST SHEPPARTON
Midweek training is at the moment on Thursday (today) at 4pm prior to the Saturday players’ training session which commences at 5pm tonight. Please remember that midweek players need to all be able to practise together as a team on one green between 4pm and 5pm on Thursday afternoons, so weekend players please respect this time and play on another green if earlier than 5pm. Division one weekend team practice will commence at 5pm under the roof and other teams on the outside rinks. Division one will be playing Tallygaroopna under the roof Friday commencing at 6pm.
All players and spectators must be double vaccinated for both pennant and social games.

The event will be played starting at 10.30am; names in prior to 10am or on the list on the noticeboard prior to Monday. Proof of vaccination will be required, and there will be a COVID-19 marshall to check players on arrival.
Club events: championship singles, B-grade singles, club championship pairs draws have been done and are on the noticeboard. Some players have played their games lately so check your draw and get your games played as soon as you can. Check the noticeboard next week as a number of other events will be posted, and while there is a lack of outside events at the moment the more games we can get played the better.
