“I watch people go through all of the emotions of wondering what to expect from the results of their scans and hoping that everything's okay, supporting them through that in the little ways that we can,” she said.
She has been holding a Biggest Morning Tea for the Cancer Council every year for the past five years with her colleagues, raising a cuppa in support those in the community battling cancer.
“In my work practice, I see people every day who are going through it and then all of the different ways they are coping with it,” Ms Hollow said.
The Biggest Morning Tea is a day when Ms Hollow and her colleagues reflect on their role in the treatment of cancer in the Goulburn Valley community, and contribute to the Cancer Council’s efforts to reduce the numbers of people experiencing cancer.
“Cancer is such a non-discriminatory thing,” Ms Hollow said.
“It doesn't matter who you are or how you are placed at the time. We don't get warning and it can come and affect anyone's lives.”
On average, 95 Victorians are diagnosed with cancer every day, or one Victorian every 15 minutes, according to the Cancer Council.
Ms Hollow is proud to help even just one person in a time of need, and the fundraising that she organises goes towards supporting cancer patients through the OTIS Foundation.
“When we’re together, we strengthen each other,” she said.
For 29 years, Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has brought together millions of Australians over a cup of tea in support of those affected by cancer.
This year the official day to host a morning tea is Thursday, May 19, but people can host at any time in May or June.
