A severe thunderstorm struck Kyabram in the early evening of Tuesday, January 2, bringing with it almost 65mm of heavy rainfall.

The intense storm caused trees to fall, blocking several roads, including South Boundary Rd and Allan St.
As a result of the storm’s impact, some local buildings suffered damage, while others experienced power outages and water service disruptions.
A total of 64.8mm fell at Kyabram in the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday.

Some streets in Kyabram were flooded, with water levels rising up to the front doors of many stores.
This flooding is expected to have caused much inconvenience and potential damage to businesses and residences in the area.

Additionally, the storm caused distress for pets, as some managed to escape from their homes during the chaos.
Fortunately, efforts are under way to reunite these pets with their owners.
The ‘Kyabram Community Connections’ Facebook group has been the place for locals to share photos of the storm and for people to find owners of missing pets.
The aftermath of such a severe thunderstorm highlights the challenges faced by the community, including the need for clean-up, repairs and support for those affected by property damage and other storm-related issues.
